The Bold And The Beautiful

My friends, Gary and Jeanne Beck, have just painted their front doors. A bold choice. I love it. It's too easy these days to get caught up in the "you've gotta have this", or "this is THE color right now". Personally. I enjoy taking risks and decorating for "me", and what makes me happy. Many will turn up their noses, but that's o.k......I love coming "home" every day. You should too.
Below are a few bold images that inspire me, some more dramatic than others. Do you like to get creative and take risks in your home, or like a couture fashion show, are some things beautiful, bizarre, and interesting on the runway but too much for real life?

  4. I wish I were brave and bold. But alas I am not. Scale I can do. Black I can do. Art I can do. Color and pattern on walls and furniture and floors is where the trouble starts.

I enjoyed looking at these, especially those that were more subtly bold. (Is that even possible?)

  6. Just love those doors as well as all the inspiration here!! I agree - you have to decorate for yourself!! I would take more chances but other half is quite conservative so it's always a toned down version of myself!!

  7. Oh where do I start on all of these fabulous designs! For starters, love the front doors. I always reckon they should be bold, bold, bold. For it is the one spot where a home can have a little cheekiness without it appearing at all gauche.

Then, so many other lovely things here. That bathroom with the wacky black and white mosaic floor tiles which have a life of their own, and that outdoor piazza sort of thing with the veggie garden beds. Ooh, would like to go play there! Virginia xx

  11. Kathy: I've been terribly AWOL. Two, too many balls in the air. I've missed everyone. Love your Tony Duquette, Dawnridge image. I am trying to catch Hutton's book signing for his new jewelry book at Bonhams in NYC, when I go home for Thanksgiving. I'm scheming for that outdoor garden area.
    Best,
    Liz
