Velvet Underground

A little post music...

I've been pushing velvet on a lot of people lately. I don't know why, but I've got a whole late 60's early 70's thing going on right now in my head. Along with grasscloth wallpaper, persian rugs, brass, lucite, and wood accessories, velvet is my new obsession.

Pull up a chair....

Velvet has many faces. It can be laser cut modern, distressed washed vintage, tufted traditional, or upholstered shabby chic.

Put your feet up...

It is the general scholarly belief that velvet arrived in Italy from the Far East transported by Arab merchants. It was then spread throughout Europe by merchants from Lucca, Venice, Florence, and Genoa. Between the 12th and 18th centuries, Italy had the largest velvet production industry in the western world. The production of velvet clothed royalty, built cities, and financed wars.

Have a seat next to me...

The fabric takes it's name from the characteristic appearance. In Italian "vello" means fleece, and "velluto" or velvet means fleecy.

Come to bed...

Unlike George Costanza, I have no desire to be ensconced in velvet, however, you might drape me in it...

Ornamentation...

A versatile fabric, with moods to suit just about anyone, velvet is a look to love...

  10. Kathy: Did velvet ever go out? I just pretended that chenille didn't exist. I might have to make a new button for the carrier dove "Coolest post of the week." You have won my imaginary award! I'm going to have to kick it up a notch around here.
    Best,
    Liz
