Greenhorns
I'm planning a screened porch update this spring, and a staghorn fern, or two, will be a part of it.
Flipping through this month's Architectural Digest magazine, I was thunderstruck by the pictures of the 1000-square-foot Greenwich Village backyard of actress, Julianne Moore.
It has a plethora of boxwood and ivy (two of my favorite things). However, the stars of this show are the mounted staghorn fern.
Verdant green taxidermy takes the edge off a serious garden space. Notice how it playfully peaks out from the from the ivy.
I plan on mounting mine on decorative plaques and hanging them on the porch wall that does not receive direct sunlight.
A quick search of Ebay found plenty of sites to purchase a plaque. I might paint mine white.
I've seen this fern at several local nurseries, but Amazon had vendors as well.
As the temperature starts to rise, I'll start the process, and if all goes well, I'll post the results.
Wish me luck!

Pretty!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I wonder what she does with them in the wintertime.
ReplyDeleteAmazingly beautiful plants. In Florida, I have seen them suspended from very sturdy branches of big trees and they are a treat to see!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I do love that natural wood, but could see the plaque in white if you are putting it against a darker color. Can't wait to see.
ReplyDeleteThat last image...that sucker's getting pinned right now.
