Mob Mentality

Wilson A. Bentley was a self-educated farmer from the small town of Jericho, Vermont. In 1885 he attracted world attention by becoming the first person to photograph a single snow crystal by adapting a microscope to a bellows camera. His obsession led to over five thousand photographs, no two alike.

There is a museum in Jericho devoted to Bentley's passion. For those of you that can not make the trip, Dover Publications has issued a soft-covered copy of his original 1931 book, "Snow Crystals", with more than two thousand images. You can also visit www.snowflakebentley.com.

In the meantime, here are a few of his extraordinary images.

Snowflakes, like people, are all different and beautiful, but they can be a nuisance when they lose their identity in a mob.

  1. The American Antiques Show was unfortunately in January - not June :( It's held about the third weekend in January every year. Hopefully you can make it to next year's show!

I love comments! Thank you for taking the time to do so. Unfortunately, I have been getting bulk spam, so I have enabled word verification (temporarily I hope) to try and put a stop to it. Thank you for understanding! k
