finding a beautiful lamp in the recycle bin

No, not this delicious pair from lamp maestro Christopher Spitzmiller. That would be akin to winning the lottery. These fellas will set you back a cool $6490.00.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I get so many catalogs, and do not have the time to thumb thru most of them. Oftentimes I dump them straight into my recycle bin as I pass by with the day's mail. They never even make it into the house. That was the case the other day. I had just finished dropping a half dozen catalogs into the bin when something caught my eye...

The Home Decorators catalog was on top and had flopped open. I noticed it right away.  You can see it on the table to the right.

It looks very similar to many of my lamp fantasies.

I have not seen the Home Decorators lamp in person, however you can be most assured that it is no where near the quality of those above. But I'd be willing to bet that it would be a beautiful addition to many homes.

more shade...

I've been obsessed with finding the perfect, affordable lampshade for the last several weeks.
I wanted something that is just "a bit more" than the normal shades you see around town. I've determined, after much research, that you have to go across the pond to find it. Now of course you can have a custom shade made using any fabric you want. I wanted something pre-made and affordable. In my last post I mentioned several top notch purveyors. Here is one more...

They have quite the selection of shades and other furnishings, however, I decided to purchase mine from OKA...

It's a lovely dark black/brown with cream, pale green and orange/yellow highlights on raw silk.

If you decide to bring one over, be aware that they set up their lamps differently than we do.

I had to take the lamp base in to the local lamp store. It had a traditional harp and finial setup.
$15 later I had something that would support my new shade.

Excuse the phone pics. The new shade gives off the softest glow in the evening that I couldn't seem to capture.

Next up?...I'm throwing shade at the little guy in white.
I'm thinking something like this from Pentreath and Hall...

I'll keep you posted...

throwing shade...

...the look I gave my computer screen, after Googling "beautiful, pleated, fabric, lampshade", and getting the images below...

no joke

To quote Stephen Colbert, "Nation, you've got a big problem."

Why is it that we have to cross the Atlantic to find a decent lampshade?

pooky :

Try to imagine the next two rooms with plain white or black shades. Would they still be lovely? Yes, they would. However, the chosen shades bring depth and polish to the space. It's a small touch that makes a big statement.

So give it a go.....or risk some shade...
